The success of Levin's 1972 novel and it's 1975 filming occasioned a trio of TV movie spinoffs: Revenge of the Stepford Wives, The Stepford Children, and The Stepford Husbands.

Levin had no creative input into these works, which were permitted under the original 1975 film contract; they were neither conceived, nor written, by him.

As Levin explained on the 1991 Larry King radio show: “I didn't realize when I signed the contract that gave [the original 1975 film's makers] the right to make sequels, that that was what was gonna happen.”
